Never Cry Wolf - Farley Mowat (Nonfiction)

The Canadian government was worried about shrinking caribou populations, so naturalist Farley Mowat was sent off into the Arctic wilderness to investigate the connection between wolves and caribou. What follows is a highly amusing and interesting tale of a man and his adventures while observing a wolf pack.

Is Mowat's story true? Various other lupine researchers have expressed skepticism, saying that Mowat's observations have not borne out with their own, and consider this a fictionalized account. Yet regardless, it's a highly entertaining story of a fascinating animal that will likely lead you to seek out more information on wolves and their intriguing habits.

Wolves - Daniel Wood (Nonfiction)

Daniel Wood compiles all sorts of information in an easily digestible manner regarding wolves and their behavior, ranging from their social behavior, to their hunting methods, their life cycles, and so on--- all information accumulated from decades of reliable wildlife research and study

The best part of this book, however, is the stunning photographs. The wolves are well-depicted in their various habitats, throughout all the seasons, giving you an appreciation for the rugged conditions in which they live, and the wide variety of colorings and appearances they take. I especially enjoyed the sections on their social behavior, as there was a well-written section regarding wolves' expressions. They are very communicative animals! Not just material for someone in need of a footnote for their school paper, this book is enjoyable just for an afternoon of fun, light reading for any animal lover.
