Teacher Collections

A TEACHER or ORGANIZATION COLLECTION may be set up to allow check out of up to 30 items.

TEACHER COLLECTION status must be set up through the Youth Services Department. A teacher must be currently employed by a public or private institution and have at least 5 students in his/her care to qualify for this status.  The teacher will be issued a card on submission of a signed agreement accepting responsibility for any lost materials and/or fines and fees for each item checked out.

ORGANIZATION COLLECTION status must be set up through the Circulation Desk. ORGANIZATION cards are issued on submission of written request on official organizational stationary, signed by an official of the organization accepting responsibility for all lost materials and fines or fees and designating a contact person.

 Additional limitations are as follows:

  • FIVE holiday books (Christmas, Halloween, etc.)

  • TEN audio items (Cassettes, with/without books, CD’s)

  • TEN books in any ONE subject area

  • TEN VIDEOS per collection.

These limitations are placed so that each borrower has an equal opportunity to check out special materials which may be in short supply due to demand.

All items including videos will be checked out for a 4-week period with no renewal.  The library takes no responsibility for the use of videos in the classroom. Please check to see if public performance rights are included before showing a video in the classroom.

FINES AND LOST BOOKS

Individual teachers and organizations will be assessed overdue fines when any items checked out to them are returned late.  All materials are charged at the rate of 10 cents per day.  The maximum fine is the replacement cost of the item.  There is a 7-day “grace period” for all materials before fines begin to accrue.  After the 7-day grace period, fines accrue from the original due date at ten cents a day per item (i.e. a book returned on the day following the grace period will generate an 70 cent fine).

Items returned damaged beyond repair are set to “lost” status, as are long overdue items.  Lost items require payment of replacement cost, plus a non-refundable $15.00 processing fee ($5.00 for paperbacks).  If any lost item is found within three months and returned in usable condition, the replacement cost may be refunded.  A repair or rebinding cost may be charged at the discretion of the library for any damaged material that can be repaired.
