ONLINE RESEARCH DATABASES

Printing charges in the Library are 10¢ per page.   Printouts will be sent to the Print Station behind the Circulation Desk and require the use of a TracCard (debit card). Several databases allow you to e-mail articles to your personal e-mail account. 

Remote access is available for all databases EXCEPT Ancestry Library Edition, NewspaperArchive.com and Westlaw. 

  • texshareTexshare Databases - access over 50 different databases on a wide range of topics, including business, science, genealogy, homework help, health, newspapers, magazines, literature, and history. Remote access requires a special login and password available at the Reference Desk. Call 767-0868, ext 234.  You must be a Wichita Falls Public Library cardholder.
  • Ancestry Library Edition - Interested in doing your family tree? With access to over 1.5 billion names in 3,000 different databases, you'll find your ancestors fast. Includes digital images of the U.S. Census 1790-1930. Available for use at the Library only.
  • A to Z Maps Online - the world's largest subscription-based database of proprietary, royalty-free world, continent, country, and state maps. Included in the 4,000+ maps are: political maps, physical maps, outline maps, population maps, precipitation maps, climate maps, and other thematic maps.
  • Biography Resource Center - contains narrative biographies and full-text articles on any person of note throughout the world. Search by name, occupation, nationality, gender or other personal facts.
  • EBSCO Small Engine Repair Reference Center - contains thousands of accurate and concise step-by-step maintenance and repair instructions for hundreds of small engine machines and their supporting components. Engines types include: motorcycles, ATVs, personal water craft, snowmobiles, lawn mowers, tractors, snow blowers, generators, and more.
  • Gale Databases - link to all databases from the Gale Group available at the library.
  • Gale Directory Library  - Includes access to Ward's Business Directory of U.S. Private and Public Companies, The Encyclopedia of Associations, and the Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media.
  • Gale LegalForms - Provides a wide selection of state-specific (and multi-state) legal forms across the most popular legal areas. Includes real estate contracts, wills, pre-marital agreements, bankruptcy, divorce, landlord tenant and many others. Also included is a comprehensive attorney state directory and a dictionary of legal definitions explained in laymen's language.
  • Gale Literature Criticism Online - an extensive compilation of literary commentary that represents a wide range of modern and historical views on authors and their works across regions, eras & genres. Includes the Gale titles Contemporary Literary Criticism (CLC) and Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism (TCLC) as well as several others.
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) - a database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources, including titles such as Novels for Students, Drama for Students, and Literary Themes for Students. Made possible in part through a grant from the Texas State Library.
  • LearningExpressLibrary.com - an online database of interactive practice exams designed to help users improve their scores on academic, civil service, military, and professional licensing and certification tests. Some of the tests included are the GED, ACT, ASVAB, GRE,  SAT, postal worker and firefighter exams, and the test for U.S. citizenship. If you wish to access your account from home you will need to use your 14-digit library card number as your USERNAME and make up your own password.
  • Library of Texas - search multiple Texas library catalogs and databases in one sitting.
  • My Audio Library - Cozy up with a best-selling audio book from the comfort of your home. Log in using your library card and your PIN and you can download audio books to your computer or MP3 player.
  • NetLibrary - Experience eBooks!  The library has access to over 28,000 eBooks that you can browse, check out, or download. Create a free user account on one of the computers at the library and then you may access your account from home. 
  • Newsbank - Complete full-text content of local and regional news from the Wichita Falls Times Record News (11/16/1998 - current), including community events, schools, politics, government policies, cultural activities, local companies, state industries, and people in the community. Paid advertisements are excluded.
  • NewspaperArchive.com - Search this site for historic newspapers including the Wichita Falls Daily Times 1911-1923. The New York Times from 1854 to 1901 is also online as well as dozens of newspapers from throughout North America. Available for use at the Library only.
  • Salem Health - online access to Salem Press's award-winning Magill's Medical Guide, Salem Health: Cancer, and Salem Health: Psychology and Mental Health.
  • Salem History - online access to these series from Salem Press: Milestone Documents, Great Events from History, Great Lives from History, Great Athletes, Historical Encyclopedia of American Business, Musicians & Composers of the 20th Century, and The Decades in America.
  • Salem Science - online access to Salem Press's science books, including The Solar System.
  • Westlaw (Standard Edition)- contains Texas case law and statutes, plus federal case law and statutes. Available for use at the Library only.
